Heading Into Fall

September 22, 2017

The season is changing in the Whitewater Valley and things will be pretty busy in the Canal Town from here until the end of the year.

Canal Days will be happening in just a couple of weeks. The biggest single event of the year, it features antique dealers and crafters along the Whitewater Canal in the areas managed by Historic Metamora Inc. All over town people rent what seems like every available square inch of land to flea market and carnival food vendors of many types. Canal Days always starts on the first Friday in October (Oct 6th this year) and goes for three days. Most vendors are open from 9 to 5 daily, but no one has any way of guaranteeing anything.

Right after that the town launches into the Halloween season with Haunted Village of Metamora, which has been extended over three weekends this year. On Friday and Saturday evenings from 7:30 to 10 the Merchant's Association offers a hayride with a guided walk back through town for $5 per person. In addition, the Whitewater Valley Railroad is doing a haunted train ride, visit their website at whitewatervalleyrr.org to check on ticket prices and availability.

Here at Metamora Performing Arts we have Bluegrass Nights coming up on Sept 30 with Borrowed Tyme, Oct 21 with Mark Poe, and Nov 18 with James White and Deercreek. $8 at the door, we have food available for purchase in the barn. Doors at 5:30, house band at 6, and featured band starts at 7.

Acoustic Final Friday wraps up for the season on Oct 27th with our annual potluck. Bring your favorite dish or whip up a spooky treat. As always the sign up for stage time begins at 6:30 and the music will start at 7. Some people even come in costume. Because of the extended Haunted Village dates, those tours will be going on down in town, so you might want to plan to come to the barn from US 52 to Pennington Road rather than driving through Metamora.
